After years of research, our special Verus Art collaboration has brought together pioneering 3D digitization technology and the latest elevated printing processes to safely and accurately reproduce the brushstrokes of our favorite artists.
Painting safety is paramount for any fine art conservation project and the Arius Technology painting digitization system has been designed in conjunction with leading museum conservation departments, specifically for such delicate and valuable assets. For instance, building a portable system ensures paintings never have to leave the safety of a museum.
During digitization, our 3D mapping system takes hundreds of millions of measurements of the painting surface without ever touching it. Each data point measurement includes the colour and height of the painting surface to a level of detail that’s finer than a human hair.
With Arius Technology’s specially designed data pipeline, the mapping data is transformed into a 3D digital model and converted into a format that’s ready for elevated printing.
One of the many components of this digitization phase is Arius Technology’s colour management process and technology, which is unique to elevated printing and ensures the colour in a reproduction is as close as possible to the original painting.
The final reproduction is brought to life with proprietary, full-colour elevated printing. Master-proofs are always printed first and are sent to museum curators to compare to the original painting as part of the authorization process.
Once approved, the museum Director will approve for a limited edition of textured reproductions to be created. Museum conservators and curators also work with Verus Art to select a Larson-Juhl frame which complements the work and reflects the historical era of the original.
